C J Lang & Son, the SPAR wholesaler and distributor for stores in Scotland, has appointed Jason MacLeod in the newly created role of Fresh Foods Sales Executive, in a move that demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing fresh food sales.

Jason MacLeod has moved up into the position following four years with the Dundee-based distributor as Field Sales Executive, during which time he was responsible for developing retail and wholesale sales in the Glasgow area.

Previously to this, MacLeod worked as a Produce and Provisions Manager at Asda , where he gained extensive experience and developed a keen interest in fresh foods.

The new role of Fresh Food Sales Executive has been created within CJ Lang’s Independent division to speed up fresh foods sales growth and to enhance the reputation of Scottish SPAR convenience stores for providing comprehensive fresh foods offering to rival multiple competition.
In his new position, MacLeod will produce and help to implement plans for fresh food development and training programs. He will also conduct competitor audits to identify areas for growth within the SPAR Scotland fresh range, work with the Sales & Development teams to develop fresh foods during store fit out’s and refits and manage fresh food training inductions for all new stores into SPAR Scotland.

Claire Bolton, Sales & Marketing Director of C J Lang said: “Jason’s new role will enable him to make full use of his experience and key skills. The appointment further demonstrates our commitment to dedicate resource to fresh food development and continue to make significant progress in that field.

“The Rewards package which we introduced at the start of the year has been created to support Jason’s efforts by encouraging independent retailers to focus on chilled foods and fresh produce. Since its launch in May retailers have been benefitting from a 3% rebate on their annual fresh foods purchases. This takes some of the risk out of investing in the category and will help them develop their existing business faster than they would otherwise have been able to.

“With Jason in his new position, our Rewards incentive and our increased focus, we aim to significantly increase fresh food participation in our independent stores in the short, medium and long term.”
