CJ Lang & Son Ltd, owners and operators of SPAR Scotland have supported the NSPCC as their national charity partner since 2006, and last week SPAR Scotland generously donated a cheque for over £14,000 to the charity’s ChildLine Schools Service in Scotland.

The money was raised through the sale of single-use carrier bags, which since October 2014 cost customers 5p per bag. SPAR’s support will help fund the ChildLine Schools Service in Scotland. Launched two years ago and delivered by trained volunteers, the ChildLine Schools Service is a ground-breaking service which has been set up to give nine to 11-year-olds the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner.

Zoe Strong, Corporate Fundraiser for NSPCC Scotland said “I would like to thank the whole CJ Lang team for their support. The carrier bag initiative has been a real success, raising a fantastic amount for children, and that’s thanks to the commitment and generosity of everyone involved. The money raised will really help us keep children safe from harm, giving them a brighter, happier future.”

NSPCC Scotland is one of many chosen charities across the country to benefit from the funds raised by SPAR stores in Scotland. Cheques will be donated to various campaigns from youth clubs, sports clubs, elderly care and specialist medical treatment throughout the year.

SPAR Scotland and NSPCC Scotland will continue to raise funds together in 2015, helping ChildLine protect a generation of children, one primary school at a time.
