WINNER: Penny Petroleum, Jet Kirkmuirhill Service Station, South Lanarkshire
Jet Kirkmuirhill Service Station reaped the rewards of a £150,000 refit designed to help it compete against a double dose of local competition. With a Co-op convenience store and a Tesco outlet and forecourt nearby, it faces an intense business challenge, but is more than holding its own – and building strong links with the local community has been key to that success.

One judge said: “Kirkmuirhill Service Station is driven by its customers and the community, and that is what I love about it. It is simply a great forecourt.” Another judge said: “It keeps things nice and simple, knows the local people and services their needs. It has competition nearby, but that doesn’t bother it because of those close links.” One panel member described it as “a forecourt led totally by the needs of local people”, with the 24-hour outdoor launderette providing “yet another great community service”.

Congratulations to David and the entire team on this fantastic win at the recent Retail Industry Awards in London, particularly in their 25th year of business!
