Scottish Athletic Champion Lee McConnell spent this afternoon in Onthank visiting the local SPAR Store and Primary School.

She was in town ahead of her busy Olympic training schedule, to host a masterclass and question and answer session with Primary 4 & 5 Pupils from Onthank PS.

Lee, 33, broke onto the scene in 2002 at the Manchester Commonwealth Games. During her 12-year career, she has won nine major championship medals – more than any other Scottish athlete in history, but is eager to add an Olympic title to her haul.

She is hoping to compete in the 400m and the 400m relay at the London 2012 Olympics and will find out if she can after trials in Birmingham on June 22-24.

Lee has already got the qualifying time, but still needs to finish in the top two to guarantee selection. The final selection will be on July 2 – then on August 3, the first round of the 400m will be taking place.

SPAR has been proud principle Partner of European athletic since 1996 and Official sponsor of UKA since 2004. This support has been both at grass roots and elite level enabling us to support sprinters of all abilities. This includes working with junior athletes and providing sports day kits and running master classes at schools to inspire and encourage children with sports in school.

This year is a big year for sport in our country and SPAR is proud to be able to offer schools the chance to meet a GB athlete such as Lee.
