SPAR Scotland has held the first ever graduation ceremony for its newly launched STEP retailer and staff training course.

The SPAR Training & Education Program (STEP), which kicked off in March this year, is available to all managers, supervisors and retailers to help them learn new skills and increase productivity.

The course, which has a market value of £1,500, is completely free to all participants and is funded by SPAR Scotland.

Courses are held across the country and are made up of five topics: customer service, legal compliance, fresh foods and staff recruitment and retention and performance management.

One retailer said: “It’s been really enjoyable. I found the content very useful and interesting, the fresh food’s training has been most beneficial and I’ve learned how to manage my stock a lot better.”

Bill Mair, CJ Lang Sales Director said: “In this tough economic climate, we must invest in our people and believe this unique offer of training is a motivating and rewarding scheme for all involved, it’s been a great success.”

The 28 members who have completed the program will receive their certificate on the 4th December at a graduation ceremony hosted at the CJ Lang offices in Dundee.
