SPAR Scotland has announced it will become the headline sponsor of the 2019 Glen Affric Duathlon thanks to the huge success of the partnership last year.

The Glen Affric Duathlon, now in its 11th year, is a major feature in the Highland sporting calendar. It will take place this year on Saturday 11 May.

The event attracts entries from all over the country as up to 250 competitors take on a challenging hill run of 7.5 miles, followed by a mountain bike stage of 18 miles and finally a cross country run of 2.5 miles.

As the major sponsor of the event, SPAR’s logo will feature on the event’s T-shirts, medals, logos, website banners and Facebook pages.

There will be a full page on the event’s website to promote SPAR, as well as radio coverage. SPAR will also provide goodie bags for the event.

Paula Middleton, SPAR Scotland Marketing Manager, said: “We are delighted to support the 2019 Glen Affric Duathlon as its major sponsor.

“We’ve supported the event before, but never to this scale. After the success of last year, when it had fantastic coverage from BBC Radio Scotland and a large number of spectators, we were excited to become more fully involved this year.

“Our sponsorship is a fantastic way for us to promote a healthy lifestyle alongside the SPAR Brand,” she said.

Race director, Matt Jones, said: “The location of our duathlon can create logistical problems and services for the race day itself can be expensive, so we rely on organisations like SPAR to give us the financial help we need.

“Without their support, we would find it difficult to stage the event year on year, so their sponsorship is extremely welcome and very much appreciated.”
