Two SPAR stores in Glasgow, Dorchester Avenue and Cleveden Road, have donated a collective sum of £5,000, raised by the 2p carrier bag scheme, to help local baby Scarlett Dougan.

Scarlett is one of the 600 infants diagnosed with Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, which means her body cannot pump enough bloody to her lungs. Amazingly, where most babies born with the condition die within days, Scarlett reached four and a half months before being diagnosed.

Parents Nichola and Peter arranged a black tie event at Crowne Plaza, Glasgow, on November 10 to raise funds for Yorkhill Hospital in the hope of raising thousands for new equipment and promoting blood and organ donation.

To further their support, the SPAR stores were promoting the ticket sales in store alongside collection buckets which added a further £500 to the total.
